It offered more facial protection than the nasal helm. In this early type, the shapes of a nasal helm with a rounded helmet bowl can still be clearly seen. Helmets like this were worn by the European aristocracy during the time of the Second Crusade and remained in use until the first half of the 13th century. These great helms were worn in
