Ichiro entstammt einer Familie, die auf eine lange Geschichte im Bereich des Brauens von Sake zurckblicken kann. 1945 entschloss sich Ichiro's Grovater, Whisky herzustellen. Dies stellen die Anfnge der Hanyu Distillery dar. Diese schloss aufgrund von Insolvenz im Jahr 2000. Ichiro rettete die Fassbestnde und nahm seine Chichibu Distillery im Jahr 2008 in
